How Islam Introduces God: 1

Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful) : H e is Merciful alike to all His creations. Whether they are believers or non-believers, atheists, people who engage in blasphemy and take His name in disrespect.., whoever they are, He shows them Mercy indiscriminately. The earth created and proportioned with pure air, water, beautiful terrains, rains, all factors necessary for the mental and physical well being of His creations, are signs of His Mercy. He is the Creator, but He doesn't just create and leave. He cares about His creations from ants, to bees, to spiders and insects and birds and fish to flowers and fruits to human beings. A beautiful sunrise that cheers..  A sunset that calms and relaxes.. Night and day, rain and clear skies, chirping birds, breeze, summer, winter, spring, autumn, seasons, the way our body functions and how our heart beats through the night even when we are sleeping.. the order of the orbits, the rhythm of seasons and celestial planets.. all ...

How Islam introduces God to man

And (all of) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allâh, so call on Him by them, and leave the company of those who belie or deny (or utter impious speech against) His Names. They will be requited for what they used to do.  (Surat Al-A’raf 7:180) Islam is a way of life that demands complete surrender before God. The ideal connection between God and man is that of a most beloved Master and a most beloved slave. The language is one of absolute surrender and sublime love. The slave knows His Master and has absolute confidence in Him, knowing that he is safe there and he is totally "owned" by God. He turns to God for his small, big wishes and every day trials and there are no ultimatums to God. He is patient through life and hopeful for today and tomorrow, no matter how bleak today is. Through his love for God, he aspires to be a better person, and to be a better person to the people that surround him and also to animals, environment. He understands that he is the representati...

The Learning Quran and Post it Initiative

When I started off this blog, I thought I could talk about Islam quite well because I was pretty knowledgeable about Islamic concepts. Ofcourse, now I realize its not true. I am very ignorant. But I would like to share what little I know and I am planning to learn Quran from the scratch and post it here so that my blog grows along with me.  My intended plan of action is to learn Quran in the order of revelation to the Prophet. Because, this was revealed to the Prophet when he was ignorant, at the age of 40. So the revelation introduces God, the relation of man to God, the purpose of creation.. And I am pretty much on the same starting point.. ignorant and I would like to be introduced to God, who He is.. what He is for me.. and why I am here... and then start off my faith at that tangent. I think thats the best way to learn Quran... atleast I would like to experiment that way. Lets see how it goes... and where we arrive! :)

Qualities to benefit from Quran

In Quran, God mentions a few qualities to be possesed by a person who can benefit from it. Refer to chapter 2, verses 1 - 4. ( http://www.tafheem.net/main.html ) The qualities are :- 1. Piety - The desire to distinguish between good and evil, and the determination to shun what is evil and to adhere to what is good. This is the first quality that should be there in a person who can benefit from this book which was revealed for guidance to mankind. 2. The person should have faith in "ghaib" or concepts beyond his sensory perception. These concepts include God, angels, revelation and so on. If a person is determined to first sense God with his senses such as sight, or hearing or touch and then only believe - he can never benefit from this book. 3. The person should possess the intention to obey God at all costs - even if it goes against his selfish interests. 4. The person should have the willingness to pay the claims on his property of both man and God. He shouldbt be miserly o...

An Introduction to God

Contrary to the general belief among those ignorant about Islam, Allah is no Arabic tribal God. Allah is not the God of the Arabs or the Muslims. He is not the property of a community. Nor is He the Lord in charge of a particular nation or community or a particular time span alone. The English word " God " represents that power who creates, sustains and regulates the universe and has prescribed life cycles for such tiny creatures as unicellular organisms and insects like flies, to big celestial dimensions such as orbits of planets. In Mayalam, the word " Daivam " or " Eeswaran " or " Jagadeeswaran " denotes the same power. In Hindi, it is " Bhagwaan " or " Eeswar ". In Arabic the term is " Allah ". It is an Arabic term to denote the same power. But, there is an interesting technicality about the term "Allah". Allah in Arabic is a term derived from "Al Ilaah" - directly translated as The God. There...

Why I start this blog?

In today's world, Islam is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons... Terrorism for starts - a wrong correlation for sure, but thats the way it is. Then, there is the "4 wives" issue, the "talaq" or divorce issue, the inheritance laws, Islam's stand on capital and corporal punishment and ofcourse the "hijab" or veil. The world in general has drawn a gross mental picture of Islam - an erroneous conclusion based on hearsay and also deliberate attempts from political bodies in mass alienating a particular community or sometimes a nation at a global, national and individual scale. I will not attempt to hide the factor of the thoughtless and misled factions of this community who have gone ahead and sunk the concept of "jihad" into a killing machinery driven by spite and any other motive other than Islam. At a time, when men earlier denounced as terrorists come out as victims of fake encounter, we should rise to understand a horrifying fact....
